PROVENANCE : Originally designed for art historian Konrad Lange, who commissioned Pankok in 1900 to build and decorate a house in Tübingen, Germany - Private German collection, 1990's - Sold by Von Zezschwitz, Munich, 12th November 2004, lot 285 - Private collection, Belgium, acquired at the above sale.

SIMILAR PIECES : A chair of this design was photographed in 1901-1902 in one of the guest bedrooms of the Lange house, alongside a tall pine wardrobe. This wardrobe sold at Sotheby’s on 24th February 2016, and was said to have belonged to Pankok himself and to have remained in the family until 2005. It is thus possible, although impossible to prove, that at least one of the two chairs offered here might have had a similarly important provenance.
