PROVENANCE : Made for the Pavillon de l'Union Centrale des Arts Décoratifs, Palais du Louvre, Paris - Personal collection of Georges Hoentschel, 15 cité du Retiro, Paris, probably until his death in 1915 - Collection of George Aboucaya, Paris, 1980's Luc Choveaux, Paris, 1990's - French private collection since the early 2000's.
SIMILAR PIECES : These two vases are presumed to be unique pieces. However, Hoentschel designed several other ceramics for the 1900 Paris Exhibition, including a pair of 'torchères' acquired in 2014 by the Musée d'Orsay, Paris, and another monumental vase in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
EXHIBITION : Exposition Universelle, Paris, 1900 - These vases were shown in the 'Salon de Bois' built by Hoentschel in the Pavillon de Marsan.
